What’s Really in Your IV? A Transparent Look at Festival IV Hydration Ingredients

Most IV clinics hide their ingredients. We don’t. Learn what goes into every festival IV blend at PS Vitamin Infusions — real ingredients, real prices.

You’ve probably seen the pop-up IV tents at festivals or the ads for drip lounges near your hotel. IV hydration has become a standard part of the festival recovery toolkit — and for good reason. When you’re running on heat, activity, and not enough sleep, getting fluids and nutrients directly into your bloodstream is genuinely one of the fastest ways to feel like a human again.

But here’s the thing: most IV providers don’t tell you exactly what’s going into your arm. They list a catchy name — “Party Recovery IV” or “Ultimate Rehydration Drip” — and leave it at that.

We don’t operate that way. At PS Vitamin Infusions, we believe you should know exactly what you’re getting, what it costs, and why it matters before you commit. This article breaks down every ingredient we use, in plain language, with no jargon.

Why Ingredient Transparency Matters

When something goes into your bloodstream, it bypasses every filter your body normally uses. Your digestive system, liver, and kidneys don’t get a first pass at screening it. That means the quality and composition of what’s in your IV matters — a lot.

Choosing an IV provider without knowing their ingredients is like ordering food at a restaurant with no menu. You should always be able to ask what’s in your drip and get a straight answer. If a provider can’t or won’t tell you, that’s a red flag.

You should also know how each ingredient is dosed, whether any additives or preservatives are included, and whether the provider uses pharmacy-compounded or commercially prepared formulas. At PSVI, all of our IV formulas are clearly defined, and we’re happy to walk through any ingredient with you before your session starts.

The Building Blocks: Common IV Hydration Ingredients Explained

Saline Base (Normal Saline or Lactated Ringer’s)

Every IV starts with a fluid base — typically a sterile saline solution. Normal saline is a 0.9% sodium chloride solution that closely mirrors the natural salt concentration of your blood. It’s the foundational vehicle for all other ingredients and does the primary work of restoring fluid volume in dehydrated tissues.

Lactated Ringer’s is a slightly more complex saline solution that also includes potassium, calcium, and lactate. Some IV providers use it for more complete electrolyte replenishment. Both are considered standard, safe base fluids.

Our festival IVs use 500ml (Speed Session) or 1,000ml (Full Session) of base fluid — enough to meaningfully restore hydration status in someone who’s spent hours in desert heat.

B Complex

B Complex is a group of eight water-soluble vitamins: B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folate), and B12 (cobalamin). They’re grouped together because they work as a team in the body.

B vitamins play a central role in energy metabolism — they help your cells convert food and oxygen into usable energy. When you’re sleep-deprived, overheated, and physically active for days at a time, your body burns through B vitamins faster than usual. Replenishing them can help restore that baseline sense of energy and mental clarity that tends to disappear by Day 2 of a festival.

Because B vitamins are water-soluble, your body doesn’t store large reserves. They need to be regularly replenished through diet or supplementation.

Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)

B12 is included separately from B Complex in many IV formulas because it supports specific functions — particularly red blood cell formation, neurological function, and cellular energy production. Low B12 can show up as fatigue, brain fog, and low mood — all things that are common complaints during a tough festival weekend.

B12 is often given in higher doses in IV formulas than what you’d get from food or standard oral supplements, making IV delivery particularly efficient for replenishment.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Vitamin C is one of the body’s primary antioxidants. It supports immune function, helps neutralize free radicals generated by sun exposure and physical stress, and plays a role in tissue maintenance and collagen production.

Prolonged sun exposure, physical exertion, and lack of sleep all increase oxidative stress — the cellular wear-and-tear caused by free radicals. Getting Vitamin C intravenously delivers significantly higher blood concentrations than oral supplementation, since the digestive system limits how much can be absorbed from pills or drinks.

Magnesium

Magnesium is one of the most important minerals for physical recovery, and it’s also one of the most commonly depleted during heavy sweating. It supports over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, including muscle contractions, nerve function, and energy production.

Muscle cramps — especially leg cramps after a long day of dancing — are one of the most recognizable signs of magnesium deficiency. Getting magnesium intravenously delivers it directly to depleted muscle tissue faster than oral supplements can.

Potassium

Potassium works closely with sodium to regulate fluid balance inside and outside of cells. It’s essential for proper muscle function, heart rhythm, and nerve signaling. Like magnesium, potassium is lost through sweat and is difficult to fully replace through diet alone during heavy exertion.

Low potassium (hypokalemia) can cause weakness, cramping, fatigue, and irregular heartbeat. Restoring potassium levels is a key part of post-festival electrolyte balance.

Calcium

Calcium is best known for its role in bone health, but in the context of IV hydration it matters most for muscle function and nerve transmission. It works alongside magnesium and potassium as part of the electrolyte system that keeps your muscles working properly. It’s included in our Myers IV formula as part of the classic nutrient replenishment blend.

Glutathione

Glutathione is often called the body’s “master antioxidant.” It’s produced naturally by your liver and plays a critical role in neutralizing free radicals, supporting liver detoxification processes, and maintaining cellular health.

After a weekend of sun exposure, alcohol, late nights, and physical activity, your glutathione levels can be significantly depleted. IV glutathione is typically administered as a push at the end of an IV session, delivering a concentrated dose that supports your body’s natural recovery processes.

Understanding Zofran and Toradol in Recovery IVs

Our Hangover IV includes two additional components that deserve a straightforward explanation:

Zofran (ondansetron) is an anti-nausea medication. It works by blocking specific receptors in the gut and brain that trigger nausea and vomiting. If you’re waking up on Day 2 of Stagecoach feeling queasy and unable to keep water down, Zofran can help break that cycle and allow your body to actually absorb the hydration it needs.

Toradol (ketorolac) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It’s used to address discomfort and inflammation — the kind of full-body achiness that comes after a long day of standing, dancing, and not sleeping enough. It’s a non-opioid option that allows people to feel more comfortable while the rest of the IV does its work.

Both medications are administered by trained professionals and are included only in our Hangover IV formula. We discuss all ingredients with every client before any session begins.

What to Look For (and Ask) When Choosing an IV Provider

Not all IV clinics operate with the same standards. Here are the questions worth asking before you book anywhere:

  • What exactly is in this IV? A good provider should be able to list every ingredient by name, including the base fluid and any additives.
  • Where are your formulas sourced? Ask whether their solutions are commercially prepared or compounded in-house, and whether the compounding pharmacy is accredited.
  • Who administers the IV? All IV sessions should be administered by or under the direct supervision of a licensed medical professional.
  • What’s your protocol for adverse reactions? A legitimate provider has a clear protocol and the supplies to handle any reaction on-site.
  • Are there any hidden fees? Ask whether the quoted price includes everything or if there are add-on charges for specific ingredients.

At PS Vitamin Infusions, we welcome every one of these questions. Transparency isn’t just a marketing point for us — it’s how we operate.

Introduction The Meyer Cocktail, often referred to as a "Myers' Cocktail," is a popular intravenous vitamin therapy designed to deliver essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream. Originally developed by Dr. John Myers, this nutrient blend has become a common wellness treatment for individuals seeking support for energy, hydration, and overall wellness. Unlike oral supplements, IV therapy bypasses the digestive system, which is why many people are drawn to it as a more direct delivery method for vitamins and minerals. What Is in a Meyer Cocktail? The Meyer Cocktail is made up of a blend of vitamins and minerals that are commonly used to support several functions in the body. Exact formulas can vary by provider, but a typical Meyer Cocktail often includes: Vitamin C, often included for antioxidant support and immune system function. B-complex vitamins, including B12 and B6, which are commonly associated with energy metabolism and nervous system support. Magnesium, which plays a role in muscle function, nerve signaling, and relaxation. Calcium, an important mineral for bone health and muscular function. Zinc in some formulations, which may be included for immune support. Together, these nutrients are used in IV therapy to provide a concentrated wellness blend in a single session. How Does the Meyer Cocktail Work? The Meyer Cocktail is administered through an IV, which allows the nutrients to enter the bloodstream directly. Because the digestive tract is bypassed, the body does not have to absorb the nutrients through the stomach and intestines first. This delivery method is often …
